Middle School Welcome

Within the Brunswick community, the Middle School maintains an environment uniquely suited to the special needs of early adolescent boys. The Middle School's flexible but structured atmosphere allows each student, in a crucia  l period of development, to make a smooth transition from childhood to the early stages of manhood.

The faculty and staff of the Middle School, highly skilled and dedicated to working with this age group, diligently accommodate the students' differing intellectual, social and emotional needs. The fifth grade sections are each approximately 16 students; the average class size in grades six through eight is 14 students. This allows each boy to participate, to be involved and to receive individual attention on a daily basis. Teachers, administrators and staff are involved with the boys in extra-curricular and community service activities as well, guiding students in the equally important learning experiences gained outside the classroom. Daily meetings between Middle School students and their faculty advisors build the strong relationships that help teachers recognize and react quickly to specific strengths and needs.

In Middle School, the boys find an increased emphasis on nightly homework, specific grades and trimester exams. At the same time, Middle Schoolers continue their development in the diverse areas of art, music, shop and computer skills. Field trips and class trips expand the boys' educational and cultural awareness and foster camaraderie with other students and faculty.
