Enter the Pre and Lower School buildings and you will see young boys learning how to learn. In an atmosphere that stimulates intellectual curiosity, encourages creativity and recognizes individuality, teachers and staff strive to help each boy realize his unique strengths. In a secure and safe learning environment, children are encouraged to take risks and become independent learners.
Our Pre and Lower Schools are comprised of grades pre-kindergarten through fourth grade with small class sizes and a teacher student ratio of one to nine. Curriculum emphasizes the development of problem solving, critical thinking and basic skills in the core subjects of reading and composition, mathematics, social studies and science. Vigorous physical education, art and music classes, computer and library science, daily Spanish instruction and frequent field trips enhance the basic academic program. The Pre and Lower Schoolers' educational horizons are expanded beyond the boundaries of class-related activities with the boys' participation in the School assembly programs, the Lower School student council and the community service program.
In addition to providing a sound academic background in the core subjects, teachers strive, through their own attitude and example, to help each boy understand that learning is a process in which active participation is the key to success. We seek to inspire children to become life long learners and arm them with the essential skills and habits of mind necessary to make learning both meaningful and fun.
